Merlin on Bob Mould's See a Little Light...
It’s probably hard for ex post facto Hüsker fans to realize how abrupt this departure seemed. Great, light/dark record. In retrospect, B’s late 80s/early 90s stuff sounds like a catepillar crawling out of a bottle into a room full of other realtively recent butterflies.
Yes, but I'm sure it wasn't really that song that did it, since it was the fourth track on the record. I'm sure the initial shock came with Sunspots, track one, which is pretty damn far away from Bed of Nails...
Blogs are good for picking nits.
Well, except that "See a Little Light" was the first single from the album, and it did get a reasonable amount of radio play on college/alternative radio stations (and possibly MTV, though I'd have to fact check.) So for many people, "See a Little Light" would have been their first exposure.
Blog comments are also a good place for nit-picking.

OK, damn, you win. BUT! Real Husker Du fans probably didn't listen to radio or watch television, because they were too busy doing...other things. So there! (What...that argument doesn't work?)

That argument works, but...wait, what was I doing...other things.
One small recommended edit: "sounds like a catepillar crawling out of a [WHISKEY] bottle into a room full of other realtively recent butterflies."

Also somewhat relevant:
My favorite Bob Mould comment was when he was asked why he wrote sad songs and his reply was something like "When I'm happy, I'm not sitting around scribbling my thoughts."
And I think the comment was on 120 Minutes, which would confirm the "See a Little Light" air time on MTV.

If you haven't heard the latest record, it's worth nabbing.
