So Apple laptops have this great power-saving feature that will automatically dim the user's display after N minutes, and then return to full strength on any kind of keyboard or mouse activity. Can someone please explain why my Thinkpad doesn't do the same thing?
my ThinkPad X40 can do that. I guess you also can do. ref. http://www.acs.nmu.edu/1/5.4.php

My new Lenova/IBM X60 has that feature... In theory...
But it doesn't seem to be working as I type this (and try to test it). I'll have to play around with it. But it shows up as an option under "idle timers"
Half credit?

On my Thinkpad (T41), Step 5 of MaxiMiser's "Global Settings" offers to progressively dim the screen after 5,10,15 or 20 minutes.
